During my time at Sheets & Giggles as a Junior Designer, I led a social media campaign to highlight different Black businesses and organizations during Black History Month. I selected mainly small businesses and organizations that had an emphasis on sustainability. This was a very exciting and extensive project for me that allowed me to utilize my design, research, and cultural studies skills in tandem. Through the use of pattern, color hierarchy, and image choice I created multiple compositions that have a sense of cohesion and authenticity to the individual businesses. My favorite part of this project was researching the business in depth and creating patterns that communicate their missions. For example, the pattern used to feature Hanahana beauty was taken from a photo of a Ghanian North Smock, a style of clothing that highlights the weaving traditions from Northern Ghana, which is where Hanahana sources their shea butter.
