The project centered on conveying information through visual systems. We were assigned random topics. Students had to design a poster that described a collection of eight to twenty items. My assigned topic was the History of Submarines. We were expected to narrow down the topic to something more specific. For the visual research I looked at images of the first submarines. I examined submarines that were used for exploration and military uses. I also looked at images underwater scenes to work on the backgrounds. used shades of red and yellow and blue to create more colors I over layered colors. I used the colors red, yellow and blue to further the submarine theme. I wanted to use colors that stood out against the blue background. I chose colors that had a slight marine theme. The orange is a life jacket color and the red is similar to the red of a flare gun and the yellow is a similar color to iconic floaties that kids use to swim. For the illustrations of the submarines I did each individually and made them slightly different blues so that there is some level of differentiation while still having cohesiveness. I mixed different styles together and different types of images to show the range of submarines. Some of them are a drawing of a built submarines, others are showing the plans and some are from artistic renderings.
