Postcards : You are Here

This project focused around the prompt of design 12 postcards that illustrate a part of St. Louis. The project required us to design the postcards, the packaging and the stamp. The open ended prompt allowed me to project some of what i had learned in my Africana studies courses onto this project. The final product is a depiction of the black freedom struggles in St. Louis through a series of events that happen over the curse of 400 years, The packaging is meant to symbolize the conflict between white and black people in St. Louis. The viewer has to physically pull them apart to reveal the postcards. The postcards are organized in chronological order and overtime the monochrome becomes more saturated to intensify the experience and allude to the accretion history model. These events do not happen in isolation but build on top each other making them more complex.
